The seasons have definitely changed, there is a cool dampness to the weather lately that really gets into your bones. The type of chill that makes it perfect for wrapping yourself up in a bulky knitted blanket or shawl and curling up on the coach with the dogs and some knitting. Unfortunately there hasn't been much time for knitting lately but I suspect that this will change soon as my schedule at works seems to be settling down. I've spent the past two weeks over worked, tired and with a lingering cold. Gabriel and I got sick about the same time two weeks ago when I was working crazy hours. Mine however never actually developed I just have the odd sore throat here and there.
This past weekend we had a harvest dinner with some friends, of course seeing as Gabo was sick I was flying solo but nonetheless I had a good time. The amounts of food were endless, it just kept coming. Which I must admit, I'm partially responsible for that, 7 loaves of bread for 12 people might have been a bit much.
It did however give me an opportunity to develop some delicious recipes, some of which I will try to type up and post.
Aside from that all is well, time is passing by way to quickly. I can't seem to figure out where its going. Oh well, back to work for now...

How quickly time passes...
Wow, where has the time gone. Its been a whole month since I've updated this! I guess my new job is keeping me busier than I thought. Makes sense, my last post was on the 20 of July that same afternoon I got a call about a new job starting the next morning and I've been here ever since. The job itself is great and so is the company, I really can't complain. I just home they'll be keeping me. Unfortunately I can't move forward on the adoption process of the house search until I know that my job is permanent and past the initial probation phase.
On the home front things have been great. Fiji, turned 1 year old a few weeks ago, she's been great, except for a couple of accidents in the house these past couple weeks. I guess its her way of protesting against the fact that I'm not spending every waking moment with her. Again, I can't complain, being able to home office for the entire first year we had her was a blessing. Although I feel like I'm going through withdrawal. On weekends Fiji and I are usual the first ones up so we get to spend a couple of hours together, just me and her own the coach while I catch up on knitting and the TV shows I taped during the week. The hubby's new job is going great too, this week he passed the 3 month mark and they are very happy with his work and will be keeping him, not that we're surprised, but it was till nice to hear.
Taking public transit this month has had it benefits too, I managed to finish two books in the past three weeks. I'm a particularly slow reader and tend to start too many books at once and not finish any. So its nice to have two of them on my shelf that have been read from cover to cover.
I guess thats about it for now, its Friday, and even though the day has just started I'm looking forward to five o'clock. Its will be a nice weekend at home, parents are coming for dinner and to play games on Saturday afternoon. I guess tonight we'll attack the laundry and cleaning so we can enjoy the weekend. Maybe Sunday will be spent with my big sis, her hubby and the little one. The little one is growing so fast, I need to take some new pictures of him, the old ones don't look like him anymore!

Things that make me happy...
My puppy, Fiji, she'll be 1 year old on August 4th. Can't believe how quickly the year has gone by. It seems like just yesterday that I brought her home. We're very lucky to have her.
Another thing that seems to put a smile on my face lately is gardening. Keep in mind there isn't much that can be done on my little balcony but I was able to squeeze in two tomato plants, 3 dahlias, and about a dozen herbs. There is much to sit out there anymore but thats ok, it was lost space anyways. Today my first two tomatoes were ready for picking. Its a cherry tomato variety called yellow pair. Why, because they're yellow, and have a pair shape, an oh so cute. They're about 1-1 1/2 inches long.
The stress of looking for a job these past few months has been more than I can bare, these are just a few of the things that keep me distracted, and smiling. Baking helps too :)

Almond Blueberry Cookies with Lemon Glaze
Makes about 2 and half dozen cookies
I love these cookies. I make them every year with the fresh blueberries I get from my big sis. Actually come to think of it, ever since she started giving me blueberries from her garden, this is the only recipe I make with them. If you're not fortunate enough to have a blueberry bush in your garden or a big sis who does, frozen or store bought work great too.
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 egg yolk
• 1/3 cup whole milk
• 1 teaspoon almond extract
• 2 teaspoons lemon zest, about 1 lemon
• 1/2 cup ground almonds
• 1 cup fresh blueberries, or frozen blueberries thawed and drained
Lemon Glaze:
• 1 cup confectioners' sugar
• 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
Directions
In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, ground almonds, and salt.
In bowl of an electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add egg yolk and beat to incorporate, scraping down the side of the bowl with a rubber spatula after the addition. Add milk, almond extract, and lemon zest, beat to combine.
With the mixer on low, gradual add in the dry ingredients.
Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the blueberries, being careful not to crush them. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Using two small spoons, or a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop dollop mix onto stoneware baking sheets or metal baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake until golden brown around the edges, about 15 minutes.
Cool the cookies on a wire rack. Once cooled, place wire rack over a baking sheet to catch the lemon glaze as it drips off the cookies. Spoon the lemon glaze over the cookies using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.
Leave cookies on wire rack and allow glaze to dry and harden. Once hardened, cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Lemon Glaze:
Sift confectioners’ sugar into a medium bowl. Add lemon
juice and whisk until smooth. Use immediately.

Log for July 7th
Well, it early in the morning, I start work at 9am and I've been at the office since 7:30am. I had to drop Gabo at the metro and decided to come straight to work not sure what kind of traffic I would hit. Why worry about traffic if i live 15 minutes away from the office? Easy, I hadn't slept in three days due to the heat wave and last night the bedroom temperature had reached 36 degrees. So, we packed up our stuff, and the dogs too, and shipped ourselves off to Laval to be in the AC. Well, people are starting to file into the office, so, I
